Group Mat Classes

When it comes to strengthening the deep core muscles of the body, we believe in the importance of progression so that anyone, at any fitness level, can participate. We follow the Stott method, working from the inside out in order to increase strength of the deep stabilizers for spinal support, work our way out to posture improving muscles and finally to the more superficial muscles to create a longer leaner look. During this full body workout on the mat, we use small equipment to both modify and intensify the workout for the Abs, Butt, Thighs and Back. But it doesn't end there - we also entertain the mind by educating our students about proper anatomical movement while keeping the information light and usable in every day life. So get ready to learn, de-stress and have fun!

Our Mat Levels:

When you are new to Stott Pilates, begin at Essential I level. Students progress to Essential II when they have a thorough understanding the fundamentals and can move through the Essential repertoire.  Students Progress to Intermediate levels for increased endurance, strength, coordination and challenge.

FAQ's:   What method of Pilates is taught in these group classes?  The Core Connection uses the Stott™ method of Pilates. It is a contemporary approach to the original work of Joseph Pilates. It was developed with input from Sports Medicine and Exercise Science professionals. It is anatomically based, utilizes modern exercise principles and provides safe, effective modifications for participants.

What does a group class consist of?  A group class consists of a series of exercises done lying on the floor, sitting, standing and in weight bearing positions. Classes are progressive and build upon what was learned in the previous lesson. Small pieces of equipment (fitness circles, foam rollers, bands, balls) are used to assist with proper form or to add more challenge to the exercises.

How does the instructor interact with the class? The instructor will explain how and why each exercise is performed and will monitor the class to ensure each exercise is being executed correctly. She will make individualized modifications to ensure the exercises are appropriate for each individual. Class sizes are limited to ensure quality instruction.

What should I wear and bring to class? Wear comfortable clothes, preferably form fitting so that the instructor can see the spine and pelvis to ensure the work is being performed correctly. Bare feet or socks are appropriate. Bring a mat and small towel.
